The European project entitled CAMPS – CLIL for Arts and Music teaching in Primary Schools was written and coordinated by Pixel in cooperation with the project applicant, Ayuntament de Guadassuar based in Guadassuar (Spain). The project was funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, KA2 – Cooperation Partnerships in School Education. The aim of the CAMPS European project is to promote an effective application of the CLIL approach in elementary schools (focusing on pupils aged 6 – 8 and on specific curricular subjects related to Arts and Music) as well as to motivate primary schools to insert CLIL in primary education for an early start of language learning.

Project Title

 CLIL for Arts and Music teaching in Primary Schools

Context

Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) plays an important role in language education, both as a feature of foreign language teaching and learning and as an element of motivation for more active learning of the contents.
While CLIL is currently being structurally implemented in secondary schools, most related literature and experiences focus on high-school pupils, with considerably less attention devoted to primary schools.

Objectives

The specific aims of the project are:
- Provide primary school teachers with reliable yet accessible methodological training that can supply knowledge and experience with the CLIL so that it will be possible to create simple disciplinary input in English
- Provide teachers with easy and effective access to CLIL base teaching tools, taking the form of CLIL based Video lessons in English focusing on Arts and Music, to be used in their everyday teaching practices
- Promote the insertion of CLIL methodology at the primary school level by providing exemplary and motivational case studies

Target Group

 - Primary School Teachers who will be able to improve their skills in teaching through new methodologies.
- Primary School Students who will acquire new language skills while learning on arts and music topics.
- CLIL Experts who will have new material to test and used.
- Schools Directors who will share and implement new teaching methodologies in their schools.

Results

The main project deliverables are:
- An online Training Course accessible from a dedicated E-learning platform which makes use of digital solutions to enhance the accessibility and usability by primary school teachers
- A collection of video lessons on specific Arts and Music topics being taught in English by native speakers elementary school teachers
- A database of case studies with which the project partners will collect direct experiences of CLIL experts, Primary school teachers, Primary school decision-makers, and policymakers in the field of education, with reference to the application of CLIL in primary schools
