Description

The University of Pisa was established in the 12th century. It comprises 11 faculties and 50 departments. The University has approximately 1,767 lecturers and more than 50,000 students, including over 1,000 PhD candidates. The Department of Economic Sciences (DSE) at the University of Pisa was founded in 1988 as a transformation of the Institute of Economic Sciences, which had been created in the early 1950s. The DSE brings together all economics researchers at the University of Pisa, totaling 39 faculty members. Research at the department follows a methodological pluralism approach, covering theoretical, applied, and historical perspectives on economic phenomena and theories. The main research areas include growth theory, inequality, macroeconomics, mathematical economics, econometrics, public intervention in the economy, sustainable economic development, and the history of economic theories and institutions.
